Refund & Cancellation Policy

Effective date: September 27, 2026

1. Overview

HarvestLocal is a marketplace for local pickup orders from independent sellers. Because many products are fresh, made-to-order, perishable, or prepared in limited quantities, cancellation and refund eligibility can depend on order status, product type, seller preparation, and applicable law.

This policy explains the general rules that apply unless a seller clearly discloses a different lawful policy before purchase.

2. Buyer cancellations

If an order has not yet been prepared or otherwise committed for fulfillment, a seller may approve a cancellation and refund. Once preparation has begun, inventory has been committed, or a product is ready for pickup, cancellation may no longer be available, especially for perishable or custom products.

Submitting a cancellation request does not itself cancel an order. The order status shown in HarvestLocal will reflect whether the cancellation was accepted.

3. Seller cancellations

If a seller cannot fulfill a paid order, the seller should cancel the order as soon as reasonably possible. HarvestLocal may facilitate a refund to the buyer and restore inventory when appropriate.

Repeated seller cancellations may result in listing restrictions or other marketplace action.

4. When refunds may be appropriate

Refunds may be issued or facilitated when an order is cancelled before fulfillment, a seller is unable to provide the purchased product, a duplicate or incorrect charge occurs, an order is materially different from what was purchased, or a refund is otherwise required by law or approved under HarvestLocal policy.

HarvestLocal may request information from the buyer and seller before determining whether a marketplace-facilitated refund is appropriate.

5. Pickup and missed pickup

Buyers are responsible for reviewing and following the pickup location, date, time window, and instructions shown with the order.

If a buyer misses a pickup window, the seller may choose to arrange another pickup time, but is not always required to do so. Perishable or made-to-order products may not be refundable after a missed pickup if the seller made the order available as promised, subject to applicable law.

6. Quality or safety concerns

If a buyer believes a product is unsafe, spoiled, contaminated, materially misrepresented, or otherwise defective, the buyer should stop using or consuming the product and contact the seller promptly.

HarvestLocal may assist with marketplace resolution, but sellers remain responsible for their products and applicable food-safety, recall, and consumer-protection obligations.

7. How refunds are processed

Payments and refunds are processed through Stripe. When a refund is approved, HarvestLocal may initiate it through the original payment method. The time required for funds to appear depends on Stripe, the buyer’s bank or card issuer, and the payment method used.

Where supported, a refund may also reverse related seller transfers and HarvestLocal marketplace fees.

8. Partial refunds

A partial refund may be appropriate when only part of an order is affected. Any partial refund will be determined based on the circumstances, the seller’s response, and applicable law.

9. Chargebacks

Buyers should first use the available order and marketplace support process when possible. Filing a chargeback does not guarantee a refund and may require HarvestLocal and the seller to provide transaction and fulfillment information to the payment processor.
