Food & Seller Responsibility Policy

1. Independent sellers

Products offered on HarvestLocal are sold by independent sellers unless HarvestLocal expressly states otherwise. HarvestLocal provides marketplace technology, payment facilitation, and related services, but does not prepare, manufacture, inspect, certify, or guarantee seller products.

2. Seller responsibility

Each seller is responsible for the safety, legality, quality, labeling, storage, handling, packaging, transport, and fulfillment of the products they list and sell.

Sellers must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including licensing, permitting, food-safety, sanitation, inspection, cottage-food, labeling, allergen, refrigeration, temperature-control, and recordkeeping requirements that apply to their operation.

3. Listing accuracy

Sellers must provide truthful and current product information. Product names, descriptions, photos, quantity, ingredients, claims, pickup instructions, and availability must not be materially misleading.

HarvestLocal may review or moderate listings, but approval does not mean that HarvestLocal has independently verified every statement, inspected a seller’s facility, or certified the safety or legality of a product.

4. Allergens and dietary information

Sellers are responsible for providing any allergen or ingredient disclosures required by law and for answering buyer questions accurately.

Buyers with serious allergies, food sensitivities, or medical dietary restrictions should contact the seller directly before purchasing or consuming a product. Buyers should not rely solely on marketplace category labels, photos, or short descriptions when an allergy or medical restriction is involved.

5. Perishable and temperature-sensitive products

Sellers are responsible for maintaining appropriate storage and handling conditions before pickup. Buyers are responsible for timely pickup and appropriate handling after the product is transferred to them.

Once a buyer takes possession of an order, the buyer is responsible for transportation, refrigeration, freezing, preparation, and other post-pickup handling unless applicable law provides otherwise.

6. Unsafe, recalled, or prohibited products

Sellers may not knowingly list or sell recalled, contaminated, adulterated, misbranded, unlawful, or unsafe products. Sellers must promptly remove affected listings and notify HarvestLocal if they learn of a material safety issue involving a product sold through the marketplace.

HarvestLocal may remove listings, suspend sales, notify affected users, or take other reasonable action when we become aware of a credible safety, recall, fraud, or legal concern.

7. Buyer responsibility

Buyers are responsible for reviewing product information, pickup details, and seller disclosures before purchase. Buyers should inspect products at pickup when practical and follow appropriate food-handling and storage practices after pickup.

If a buyer suspects a product is unsafe, the buyer should stop using or consuming it and contact the seller promptly.

8. No substitute for professional advice

Product descriptions and seller communications on HarvestLocal are not medical, nutritional, or professional advice. HarvestLocal does not determine whether a particular product is appropriate for a person’s health condition, allergy, pregnancy, medication, or dietary restriction.

9. Marketplace enforcement

HarvestLocal may request additional information, require listing changes, suspend products, restrict seller access, or remove a seller when reasonably necessary to protect users, comply with law, or enforce marketplace rules.

HarvestLocal’s decision to allow a listing or seller to remain active is not a warranty or endorsement of the seller or product.
